I think animal abusers should not be allowed to have their pets back for any reason. The law as of right now in california is ‘Cruelty to animals is defined as “Maliciously and intentionally maims, mutilates, tortures, or wounds a living animal, or maliciously and intentionally kills an animal; or overdrives, overloads, drives when overloaded, overworks, tortures, torments, deprives of necessary sustenance, drink, or shelter, cruelly beats, mutilates, or cruelly kills any animal or causes or procures any animal to be so treated.” Animals shall be seized and impounded and ownership forfeited. These crimes may be charged as either a misdemeanor or felony, with punishment of a fine up to $20,000 and/or imprisonment up to 1 year. If a defendant is granted probation for a conviction, the defendant must pay for and successfully complete counseling as determined by the court. It is also a misdemeanor to “Carry or causes to be carried in or upon any vehicle or otherwise any domestic animal in a cruel or inhumane manner”. I think abuser like that should have no right to ever own a pet because if they do it once, they will do it again.
One reason why you should never abuse your pet is that they can turn on you, and if they do turn on you, chances are the animal would likely be put to sleep, and that is unfair. You beat the animal, then it finally decides to defend itself and it dies. But nothing happens to you. That's not right. You should be the one to be punished; you beat him and all he did was defend himself and he's the one to die? That is unfair. How could someone live with themselves knowing they beat a living thing half way dead? “Not all animals will fight back and those that do, don't usually stand a chance at succeeding” i got this quote from “20 reasons why you shouldn't abuse animals”
No animal should be abused or deserve to suffer for your own pleasure. Abusing your pet just because you're having a bad day or your pet is not listening to you gives you no right to hurt them. Use that anger and go to the gym and punch a punching bag and not your pet. That's why it’s called a “PUNCHING BAG” not a “PUNCHING DOG.” Pets are for love and affection, not abuse. Animals have feelings just like humans.
Types of people who abuse their pets
Some people abuse their pets because it makes them feel powerful. Many people would hurt other people, but instead they hurt animals because animals are more helpless than people. Some people hurt their pets because they think they are taking control. There are people who abuse their pets because maybe they have experienced abuse before. There are people who think animals deserve no respect.
“In the early morning of July 24th, 1992, while residents of a northern Bronx, NY, neighborhood slept, 10 animals, part of a summer day camp for children there, were hacked to death. The savage intruder, still unidentified, left bloody lamb, pig, goat and rabbit carcasses scattered about their pens. A 21-year-old donkey, Pasado, beloved mascot of Kelsey Creek Park in Bellevue, WA, was dragged from his barn, strung up on a hangman’s noose and brutally beaten to death last April. His killers were the 20-year-old son of a police major, a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old.” As said in the article “America’s animal abuse problems”
